Fifth Day of Chinese New Year - 30 January 2009

Okay, so we went for karaoke at Partyworld last evening. It was brought forward by a week cos I am gonna have something else next Friday. Nonetheless, we managed to get the rooms on short notice so it wasn't too much of a problem.

Went for dinner at White Sands.

Our slot was the 3-hour block from 8 - 11pm but we were 15 mins late while trying to locate the place. Haha

HAHA!

Chinese New Year's Eve - 25 January 2009

Had reunion dinner with my folks. Steamboat as we have always had, filled to the brim with lots of food.

Headed down to Chinatown with boyfriend at about 10pm. Drove and parked at Boon Keng before taking the NEL down. It was SOOO crowded there! People were streaming in and out (mostly in) of the Chinatown station.

The streets were lined with stalls selling last minute clearance, goodies, ornaments.. We didn't buy anything much, except for chopsticks. Yes, you heard me right. We bought chopsticks but because they were all so cute! Hello Kitty chopticks, zodiac signs chopsticks, we just felt obliged to buy something from Chiantown. Hahhaa.

At the stroke of midnight, as we were halfway down the stretch of Chinatown streets, the fireworks came on! We were definitely not in the best place to catch the view but because it went so high, we managed to catch some glimpses of it.

Okay, shortly after midnight, we headed back and slept till the first day of Chinese New Year.

First Day of CNY - 26 January 2009

Woke up really late. Ate, bathed, changed and headed to Simei to Grandma's house. Nobody's there cos we stopped going there since grandma and granddad are no longer around. Instead, we would gather at Jean's place. So we stayed at Gran's for a while and headed off to Jean's house.

Took some photos with my cousins while we were there.

Sam and Jean were busy playing mahjong so didn't get to chat or snap any shots with them. Pity.

Left Simei shortly for Ang Mo Kio. This time is Dad's side. Heading off to Pauline's house. Most of them were already there when we reached.

Jacq's twister game came in useful so we spent a couple of hours having fun with the map and the spinning board. Hahah

This bottle of kueh was the penalty.

Look what happened just after 30 mins.

Someone will never see this kueh the same again. Hahaha

After we left Pauline's place, we headed home to rest for an hour or so and went out again. Not for visiting this time cos by then, it was already 1am. Went to Tampines Mall to catch the 1.30am show - The Wedding Game.

Movie ended around 3.30pm? Slept around 4am. Phew. Tired.

2nd day of Chinese New Year - 27 January 2009

First half of 2nd day of CNY was spent at home. Dear came by to bai nian and Mum and Dad cooked some really great stuff cos Al's girlfriend came as well. So 4 of us ate together.

After that, we caught a damn hilarious video of Russell Peters latest show in New York. Boy, I laughed so hard till my tears streamed like a tap man. Hahaha

Headed back to Robin's house in the afternoon where his folks have prepared some food too. It's just eating eating and more eating during CNY.

Afterwhich, we went to catch the other local CNY movie by Jack Neo - Love Matters.

Slightly better than Fann and Chris, but in my opinion, not his best works. Dinner with Nicholas and Corey followed.

Nick was telling us about his lasik job a and it got me so tempted. Hmm. It's also becoming widely affordable these days. Okay, perhaps next year I shall. In a way, I still do enjoy wearing glasses at times. Haha, weird I know.

Like, our reunion dinner, the trip Dear and I made to Chinaown, the fireworks that we caught, how we celebrated the first day of Chinese New Year, what we all decided to wear, where we went, what we ate.

About the visits to grandma's house, Jean's house and Pauline's house.

How we celebrated the second day of Chinese New Year, what I wore, the visit to Robin's house, what his folks cooked for me, what we laughed and joked about, the dinner we had with Corey and Nick.

But I shall do all the updating in one go, perhaps this weekend if I get the time. Meeting Jennifer this Friday for karaoke.. hehe.. think it'll be fun!

It's a 3-day working week and I have meetings and interviews all through till Friday so the week's gonna zoom past again.

But before I leave the blog stagnant for the next few days, I have an important news to share.

The movie is plotless, lame and has no point to it.

It is all about making the couple look good by wearing expensive clothes, blatant endorsements for abalone, bird's nest, condominiums.. yadda yadda.

Hello boys and girls, it's Chinese New Year Eve again! I use again not because I dread it but because it feels like time flies (it is already a fact that time flies) really fast.

A few weeks back, Analyn remarked casually as we past by Polar at Funan, ' Wasn't it only a few months back we came shopping for pineapple tarts and went to change new notes at the bank?'

Haha, that few months back was exactly a year ago. Many would agree that the past year was a whirl. I definitely look forward to Chinese New Year, when I was younger, this festive season ranked tops in my own charts.

But gradually as the years went by, my grandparents were no longer around, the cousins whom I grew up with did not go CNY visiting as often, Ally went to Germany (and had 2 beautiful kids), so CNY became a tad less re nao affair. Thank god for my family, my parents in particular who always set the tone right within our family.

My mum would whip up delicious food early the morning of CNY eve (like today!) and weeks before, she would launch into her spring cleaning mode. Dad, on the other hand would be helping out with decorations. This year (as per the last), he did some light effects on the two wine towers in my hall, and it is lovely.

Not to forget the trips they make to the market for seafood, fish, meat for our yearly reunion dinner, the trips to Chinatown to get us our favourite egg rolls and pineapple tarts (covered kind and exposed, cos we have different tastes within the family, haha) and of course, the bak kwa. This year, there is so many bak kwa.. one of which is from Fragrance, in the shape of hearts! Imagine, haha, but when you eat it, it tastes all the same.

And we would also accompany mum down town for our shopping spree, queuing for fitting rooms and cashiers became a routine. It was fun (until the credit card bills come, of course! haha)

For this year, we will be having reunion dinner as home (as we have done for the past 22 years , at least for me). The traditional steamboat with lots and lots of stuff, thinking of it makes me hungry.

After which, we would separately make trips to Chinatown. Mum would head down with Dad and I'll go down with Robin. People say it's crazy in Chinatown on the eve but that's exactly what we need. To soak up the atmosphere. =)

The night would then pass quickly and we'll wake up to the first day of Chinese New Year where we all doll up and take photos! Haha

First day this year should be at Pauline's house, also my eldest aunt's place. It has always been for the past couple of years. All of my paternal cousins will gather there and what we will do remains a question mark. Somehow or another, someone will come up with some games that make us laugh without bursting our seams. Haha

I still have no idea what I'll be wearing on 1st day.

Second day, still no idea. Likely to be announced at Pauline's house tomorrow. Still, I'm heading to Robin's place. His mum is whipping some soup and goodies for me to eat. Haha, yummm. I'm a lucky girl.

Speaking of which, I also have no idea what to wear then.

Third day would be back to work but let's not even go there. Sunday isn't even over yet! Hahah

Anyways, Dear brought me for a movie marathon yesterday. We caught 2 movies - All's well that end's well 2009 and Changeling.

The first is a Hong Kong movie, it is HILARIOUS! I laughed out loud more times than I remembered, the cast includes Sandra Ng, Louis Koo, Ronald Cheng. Everyone needs to catch this show!!

The second is Changeling. This movie is a whole different genre compared to All's well so I cannot compare but this is based on a true story and is very powerful.

In case not many of you all know, according to Wikipedie, a Changeling is a being in West European folklore, typically described as the offspring of a fairy, troll, elf or other legendary creature that has been secretly left in the place of a human child. The apparent changeling could also be a stock, an enchanted piece of wood that would soon appear to grow sick and die.

Although not directly relevant to the movie, there are some subtle ideas within it.

A mother who loses her kid reports the case to the police but to her dismay is returned with another boy who is not her son at all. She is sure that the boy is not her son but the police will not hear of it and closes her case. What extend will she go to in order to find her son?

Not gonna spoil it for those who are planning to watch, but this movie in my opinion is a great movie and you will be held in suspense for every minute of the whole 141 minutes. Must watch!

One thing I don't understand is why so many girls find her supposed bee stung lips attractive. During the whole movie, I was pretty much distracted and distured by it. Not sexy at all, to me.

Will she raise an imposter as her son?

Anyway, I coloured my hair last Friday and I love it! It's a shade lighter and totally different from the 2 photos up there now, maybe I'll take pictures during CNY and post it. Hahah.

I may want to go much shorter in the months to come. Andrew said I couldn't chop it off cos I need to re-rebond first. Boo.

The salon I went for my colouring was kindly recommended by Joanne, who did it there too! The service is great and reasonably-priced and I am extremely satisfied with result. I may return there for my next rebonding job, perhaps sometime in March cos I saw someone who did it. It looked good and is much cheaper. Kimage quoted me $260!!

Okay, shan't hold up anymore of your time.

Diana - It's time for another dinner session. Where's my lao bo ping?? Heehee

Cheryl - Happy 23rd in advance! You always lead the pack into the new year! I still want to catch you around East someday. For the nth time, how big is Pasir Ris??

This is getting increasingly cliche to some, but have a Happy Niu Year and an OX-picious year ahead! Haha
